A Deeper Sea

Navarre, FL, 2008 (Click on image for larger view)

There's something rather comforting about knowing that, in the vast immensity of it all, our place is really very small. That nothing I do, ambitious as I might be some days, rather than humble, has little meaning in the grand scheme, or much impact on anything beyond my local relationships. There's something to be said for being low-profile, a small swimmer in a much deeper sea. There is pleasure in cultivating one's own garden.

Only he's not swimming is he? He's standing there chest-deep. It raises a whole host of questions. I like this photo a lot.

Yeah, he was walking in the ocean, not swimming. This sandy beach stays shallow a long way out, before dropping off.

It does raise questions, which is why I liked it.

I was reviewing some of my recent photos, when this one caught me eye. I had rather overlooked it before. But the whole thing really caught me this time, the setting, the solitary figure, the calmness, the overall tone.

Thanks.
